Drawing from personal and professional experience, Barbara Weiner founded The Garden: A Center for Grieving Children and Teens in 1998.

Shelly Bathe Lenn started out as a volunteer facilitator in the Young Teens group in 2002. In 2004 she became program coordinator, assisting Barbara in the day to day running of The Garden. Upon Barbara's retirement in 2006, she became director.

Lenn holds a Masters of Education and a Bachelors Degree in Women's Studies and Education from the University of California at Santa Cruz, CA. She lives in Easthampton with her husband and three year old son, Evan.

Lenn recently commented, "Bringing bereavement support services to grieving families has been an incredible experience. Knowing that The Garden is one of the only places where all the kids can understand each other better because of their shared experience is a reminder how much more of this work is needed. It is an honor to carry on the work of Barbara Weiner!"
